Follow Your Joy

Follow Your Joy

This little sketch is inspired by my godchild truly a girl who follows her joy. Her mother updates me with pictures of her little life and all that she does, and versatile is an understatement for how she likes to spend her time and stretch her own growth.

She doesn’t hold back and will play you into an early bedtime. From, schoolschool, to girlfriendgirlfriend, hotel checkin to travel-travel, flying somewhere overseas – I’m always the pilot, of course, my girl doesn’t need to work yet. She loves to read, paint, bake, cook and make up games. She decides if a book is just a story or if it’s a game too. She even decides what the rules to pre-existing games are, because why would you have medium amounts of fun if you can have extreme amounts of fun?

She finds joy in the little things like riding her little bike named “Dark Pink” around town, and the big things like travelling the world with her parents. She loves to play with others and can play by herself just as happily. She loves to hang out with her little cousin James just as much as she loves a good hang with her grandmas. She loves to dress up and is a big supporter of her rugby team, the Bokke. She is a beach bum and loves a little yoga and taekwondo.  As long as she finds something and someone that brings her joy, my girl is A OK.

She loves ice cream any time of the year, and love coffee dates with her mom. She wrestles with her dad and makes him call “mercy” when they aren’t off on some or other fun adventure. She loves spending quality time outdoors and finds copious amounts of joy spending time with her best friend Leah, no matter where they are or what they do.

She loves to laugh, and sometimes after the two of us have just been silly for no reason, she even tells me, how much fun it was to just laugh and that we should do it again, immediately. Luckily, her fairy godmother is a funny pro, and I got my girl!

I watch this little human live five days in one, going from joyful moment to joyful moment. She is a powerful reminder to me, that I too can make the rules of my life. That I too can find joy in anything I do, if I just adjust “the rules” a little bit. She is a fierce little example of how much fun it is when you don’t limit yourself to anything and find the joy in everything.

So, with that said, my advice is very simple, if you create joy wherever you go, you will live a life, following your joy!

I’d like to wrap this up by quoting my dear friend and editor, Kyly, after she read the blog “Joy as a practice, as a being. Lush lush LUSHNESS!!” I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Live, love, laugh, let go and light up the world in your own unique way.

With love, always
